Big dreams are sometimes called big, hairy audacious goals.

And yes, big dreams can be scary.

Some dreams and goals are so big you wonder how you’ll get it done.

I learned this expression from an old boss and it makes a world of sense…

Question: How do you eat an elephant?
Answer: One chunk at a time.

And that’s how big scary dreams and goals have to be approached—one chunk at a time.

Success or failure is wrapped up in your day-to-day routine. That means breaking the goal into bite-size pieces you can do everyday is what moves you closer to your goal.

So instead of thinking I need/want to lose 50 pounds by the summer…think I need to drink a glass of water every morning, or I need to add fruit to my breakfast or I need to take the stairs instead of the elevator…and then do it everyday. You might miss a few days but think consistency over the long term.  I do not believe you should berate yourself because you missed a day or two.

It’s these seemingly small habits you adopt everyday that move you closer to your big, hairy audacious goal.
