Last year as I watched the Kentucky Derby, I promised myself that the following year I would go to a Derby Day party. I would visit my local race track and enjoy the festivities there. I’ll eventually get to Kentucky for the event but this was a good first step.
There were quite a few organizations hosting parties and I learned that the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was also hosting one. So good friend and AKA member, Dr. Felicia Scott, and I went! It was my first time ever at a race track and we had a great time!
What a fashion show! The men looked so dapper and the ladies in their hats and some even wore gloves made for great people watching.
I’m glad I went.
I had lots of obstacles to stop me from going.
Our son had a football physical and my husband had a work luncheon. I could have let all that deter me but I was determined and found ways to work around it all.
Yesterday was about doing and experiencing something different.
It was about adding the power of play into what could have been a typical busy Saturday.
It was about doing something to remind myself that I am alive and to enjoy that life.
It was about being with a good friend and lots of laughter.
#ThisWomanKnows there’s lots to do but don’t forget to take a moment to do something…experience something different.
These experiences add to your life especially when shared with friends.
It’s the stuff good memories are made of.
Oh and congratulations to American Pharaoh on winning a fine race yesterday!
Good luck at the Preakness Stakes!
