Our conversation on church girls and mental health resonated with many of you. If you missed the TWK TV Talk Show on the subject you can watch the replay here.
Catrice M. Jackson, M.S., LMHP, LPC was our mental health professional during the conversation and I asked her to share mental health resources as well as some things you can do to help yourself. Catrice has also authored a book on coping with fear…this can help with the fear of even seeking for help. Secure a copy by following this link.
And if you ever feel overwhelmed to the point of harming yourself, PLEASE contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline by calling 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or chat online by following this link.
Below are Catrice’s thoughts and recommendations for getting help with depression, anxiety and other mental health issues..
Nothing compares to seeking in person professional help from a licensed and skilled therapist. My first recommendation is to seek professional help and choose a therapist who is highly skilled in the area in which the person is struggling the most. It’s essential to get an accurate and thorough mental health diagnosis. They should check with their employers to see if they have an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) that can help them find the right resources in their community and or provide them. Many cities have local support groups they can attend also. Below are just a few suggestions and resources. In the case where they are feeling suicidal – they should contact the national or local hotline right away and seek immediate attention. Most states and cities have local mental health programs that can assist.
