How Long Does It Take To Form a Habit

how-much-time

Back in the 1950’s, Dr. Maxwell Maltz noticed that it took a minimum of 21 days for someone to adopt a new habit. Specifically, he said, ” it requires a minimum of about 21 days for an old mental image to dissolve and a new one to jell.”

The key phrase is “a minimum of about 21 days”.

Anyone who has ever done a 21-day Daniel fast knows how quickly all that healthy eating flies out the window on day 22.

It’s 2015 and we’re still pretty excited about the New Year. There’s the hope that this year will be different and we’ll accomplish our goals.

Well you know how effective faith is without some work attached to it.

So I want you to remember this  date— Feb. 8. That day is exactly 21 days from today and according to Dr. Maltz you would be well on your way to having the thing  you desire. Your new mental picture is becoming hard wired.

This is just the beginning.

A second study was done by Phillippa Lally, a health psychology researcher at University College London. Lally wanted to know exactly how long does it take for a new habit to become automatic.

Lally and her research team discovered that it takes 66 days for that new habit to become hard wired…to become automatic.

That’s why it’s so easy to undo all that good eating when the fast is over…the habit hadn’t fully jelled.

For that you’ll need an additional 45 days…March 25, 2015. That’s when you can expect your new habit to be automatic.

What are your goals for this year?

What do you want to accomplish?

If you start working towards those goals today by putting the necessary habits/rituals in place…by Feb. 8, you’ll notice your own progress and by March 25, according to Lally and her team your newly formed habit should be automatic.

You can so do this.
